Halfway to Cape Town

I’m in the Netherlands—my sister’s favorite country in the world. I’ll be with her for a few days in August when I come through here on the way home. Right now though, it’s 8:30 am local time and 1:30 am Nashville time. I feel tired, but it’s morning. Confusing. I love having a layover though instead of an 18-hour flight to Johannesburg and another 3-hour flight to Cape Town like last year. PLUS I get to travel over a lot of Europe and all of Africa. The Alps, the Mediterranean Sea, the Sahara desert, the lush Congo, etc. I’ll see every terrain this beautiful earth has to offer before the day is over. Of course, I got a window seat.

I’ve yet to lose my passport (only those who went with me last year will appreciate this feat), and don’t plan on it anytime soon. It’s safe. Almost missed my first flight to Detroit though. My 2nd carry-on was too big (and already full) so it was fun maneuvering the extra stuff around. Watched a little “Bucket List” and “Cloverfield” over the Atlantic with this awesome Indian vegetarian dinner. Not bad, NWA. I’m really going to be back in Cape Town, the most beautiful city in the world, by day’s end. Don’t really know who’s picking me up… No worries. At least I can get a hotel room if something goes screwy. Oh well. The adventure has truly begun!

  1. Chris, I am stuffing my suitcase this morning, and I’m so glad I checked my email and saw your message! Have a wonderful, safe journey… we leave tomorrow morning, and I think we are supposed to arritve in Cape Town at 8:40pm on 5.12, so that gives you a sense of our schedule. Enjoy your window seat, and I’m relatively sure our paths will cross sometime in Cape Town! You are inspiring for taking on this journey!

  3. Hey, bro! Thanks for the NL shoutout! I’m so excited to meet you there at the end of July. Did you get a chance to check out the rooftop cafe at Schiphol? I’ve been thinking about you today–watching the clock to see how it coordinates with your travel schedule. Mom and Dad and I had the garage sale today–we figured right about 1:30 when we were closing up, you were probably landing in SA. We all hope you got a ride! Can’t wait to hear more about your adventure!

    Love you!
